Privacy policy

What this site does and does not collect — and why text you paste into the calculator cannot reach us even in principle.

Summary

We collect nothing. There is no server to collect it with. The only third-party code on the site is Google AdSense, which sets its own advertising cookies — that is the one thing on this page worth reading in full.

Who we are

LLM Cost Check ("we", "our", "the site") is a free browser-based AI token counter and cost calculator at llmcostcheck.com, run by an independent developer rather than a company. Contact: longhouse.future@gmail.com.

Text you paste into the calculator

Prompts and documents you paste are never transmitted anywhere. Token counting and cost calculation both run as JavaScript inside your browser. The tokenizer is downloaded to your device and executed locally, so your text is processed on your own machine and never sent to us, to any model provider, or to any third party.

This is a structural property of how the site is built rather than a policy undertaking: the site is a set of static files with no backend, no database and no API endpoint capable of receiving text. You can verify it in your browser's network tab — typing in the calculator generates no outbound requests carrying your input.

One consequence worth knowing: the calculator encodes your current scenario into the page URL so that calculations can be shared. If your pasted text is under 1,500 characters it is included in that URL. This happens locally in your address bar and is not sent to us, but it does mean that if you copy the URL and send it to someone, your pasted text goes with it. Longer text is deliberately excluded from the URL, and the share button tells you when that has happened.

What we collect ourselves

Nothing. Specifically, we operate no analytics of any kind, set no first-party cookies, offer no accounts and store no personal data, maintain no mailing list, and run no server-side logging of visits, since the site is served as static files.

Third-party advertising: Google AdSense

The site is funded by advertising served through Google AdSense (Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA). Google is an independent data controller for the data it collects, and we have no access to or control over it.

Through AdSense, Google and its advertising partners may:

This processing is governed by Google's privacy policy. Google also publishes a list of how it uses cookies in advertising.

Where required by law — for visitors in the UK, EEA and Switzerland — a consent notice is presented before personalised advertising cookies are set, and your choice is passed to Google. You can change or withdraw that choice at any time through the consent controls on the site.

Your choices

Opting out of personalised advertising does not remove advertising from the site; it means the ads you see are selected without using your browsing history.

Other third parties

Two other external requests are made when you load a page. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com), which involves your IP address being visible to Google in order to serve the font files. And the site is served by a static hosting provider, which processes IP addresses and request metadata in server logs for security and operational purposes, as any web host must.

Neither of these receives anything you type into the calculator.

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR, EU GDPR and comparable laws, you have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict and object to the processing of your personal data, and to data portability.

Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to retrieve, correct or delete — we could not identify you from our records because we do not keep any. Rights requests relating to advertising data must be directed to Google, which holds that data as its own controller; the Google Ads Settings and privacy links above are the route to it.

If you are in the UK you may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office; if you are in the EEA, to your national data protection authority.

California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA/CPRA, because we do not collect personal information. Google's advertising practices are covered by its own CCPA disclosures.

Children's privacy

The site is a developer tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this site, please contact us so we can act on it.

External links

The site links to provider pricing pages, gateway platforms and other external sites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices and encourage you to review their policies before providing them with any personal information.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time; the "last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be reflected in that date, and continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
